Logitech PlayStation 2 Cordless Action Controller

One thing I always hated about game consoles was the constant tripping over tangled wires. Wires intersecting each other, making a mess of things.

Enter the Logitech Cordless Action Controller!! This is without a doubt one of the best controllers I've ever used! The controllers is very well made. The feel of it is very natural in your hands, though slightly different than the original PS2 Dual Shock. There's a nice satin like finish that prevents alot of dirt from your hands from making the controller too slippery. There is literally no notciable lag or delay in the controller's operation. The controllers 2.4 ghz signal ensures that you won't miss any of the action. Every function of the original is reproduced faithfully. Installation is extremely simple. Plug the reciever into your PS2's controller port and simpley press the action button to get a signal. There is also a button on the reciever to make the connection if needed. The battery life (the controller takes two AA batterys) is approximatley 300 hours without the vibration mode and 50 hours with the vibration mode on. A small sacrifice to make for a great product such as this.

I really can't say enough good things about this product. It's great if you have small children in the house especially. No more worrying if they are going to trip and drag the console across the room. In fact this is such a great controller I'm considering buying a second!

Compared to the original PS2, this version is a work of art. I don't think pictures really describe how great it looks and how small it is. It has already drawn many 'oohs' and 'aaahs' from my friends.

One thing I didn't expect was the inclusion of an IR port. I had the old remote control for the PS2 that required you plug that big IR receiver into the memory card port. I figured the old remote wouldn't work on the new machine but it does! And without any attachments at all.

The only reason not to get this system is perhaps if you need to use the hard drive add-on, although I think only one or two games (EverQuest is the only one I know of) actually use it.

First off let me start by saying, this is NOT going to be a PS2 bashing. Though we all have our opinions on the three systems, the fact is that they are all great systems in their own right. That is to say you won't go wrong no matter which one you choose.

Let me reiterate, this is not a bad system. It has several great games (Final Fantasy X & X2, Grand Theft Auto, WWE Smackdown Series and several others). Though it must be noted that Gamecube and XBox both have great exclusive titles. The graphics are outstanding and they may not even be the best of the three, but they are great, certainly better than anything we had just a few short years ago. They definitely have more benefits than everybody else (free online gaming, the Eyetoy, and more games. As far as controllers go, I like Gamecube's a bit better, but this controller works wonderfully well too and is well laid out. (You won't be searching for the buttons like you do on XBox controllers, that is my one true complaint with that system) Anyway Playstation 2's biggest downfall is in the fragility of the system itself and though I have experienced no problems personally, I have heard of a few from close friends.
1. Disc Reading Error (You've seen this many times, I will comment no further.)
2. Malfunctioning Disc Door (It just stops opening when the button is pressed. You then have to pull it out and push it in manually which can cause it ultimately to break.)
3. The power cords tend to wear out faster than average. (Not a big deal, the cords are fairly cheap, but it could present a fire hazard.)
None of these things would be a huge deal except that the PS2 comes with a measly 90 day warranty (Do I hear 1 year anyone?)

I'm not trying to say this system is junk. It does have durability issues more than anything. I personally prefer Gamecube but only by a small margin. All of you who immaturely spout "PS2 rules, Gamecube & XBox suck" are not only lying to yourselves, you're doing a great disservice to the readers who depend on these reviews to make an important decision.

The bottom line is the Playstation 2 is a great system and definitely worth the money, but it is not gaming perfection as some make it out to be. Try Gamecube & XBox as well. All three are extremely fun!!!

PlayStation 2 Memory Card (8MB)

This memory card should not be called an accessory because it is an essential. It will cost you a few extra dollars, but it will allow you to enjoy your games more fully since this device will enable you to go more into depth and get as much as you can out of each game. You do not have to restrict yourself to just 1 memory card per game since it hold 8 megs of memory (this is a whole lot of memory). The only games that will take a good chunk of that memory are sports games if you run a simulated season (they generally will take up around 1 to 1 1/2 megs of your memory). Besides that, if you are not into sports you could save files from a small library of PS2 games onto one card! Another great aspect is that the card is efficient. It is very fast, meaning that you will not have to wait long at all in order to load your saved files, save new files, and delete ones that you think you will no longer need. This is a must have if you have a PS2 because without it, you're missing out on a true gaming experience.

Either way, the DUALSHOCK 2 revolutionizes the way games are played. This controller is compatible with any game, including PlayStation format software, that supports digital control, analog control, vibration function and/or pressure sensitive function, and on any system including the PlayStation game console and the PS one console; however, pressure-sensitive button features work only with the PlayStation 2 system.

For all of you clueless adults out there: you must purchase a memory card or the kids can't save their games and have to start over from the very beginning, which can be tedious. My daughter played continuously for hours on end, sleepy-eyed even in the day or so following Christmas (before we purchased a memory card), simply because when she turned the game off, it would be lost forever. Save your children. Buy a memory card.

ever since my PS2 broke, I've been holding off on getting it replaced because I was planning on upgrading to a PS3, now I find out the PS3 is eliminating back-compatibility to cut costs. Here comes amazon gold box to the rescue! PS2 + singstar pop for $99! I was going to buy the SingStar game anyway, but now it's bundled into the PS2, the game itself is worth nearly 50 on it's own, which mean I just got a new PS2 for 50 dollars! well worth it in my opinion. SingStar is great! probably the best and worst feature of the game is that it has a feature where you can play back the song you just sang. (it's terrible if you sing as horribly as I do =P ). The game has full songs and music videos which is leaps and bounds better then those crappy home karaoke machines with their crappy MIDI syth'ed songs and no vocal tracks.
